Frequently Asked Questions

The Essentials

What most attorneys ask first.

How are you paid?

We’re fee-only — paid directly by you, never through commissions, product sales, or third-party referral fees. For ongoing clients that’s a flat monthly retainer set by your career stage; for portfolios above $2 million in managed assets we move to asset-based pricing. We’ll walk through the exact number in your consultation.

Is there an asset minimum?

No. We work with attorneys at every stage — from a first associate paycheck to equity partner. You don’t need a certain amount of savings or investable assets to start.

What does “fiduciary” actually mean for me?

It means we’re bound to act in your best interest — not a product company’s, and not our own. Because we take no commissions, our advice answers to you alone. When investment management is best served by a specialist outside manager, we bring one in only when it’s in your best interest.

How does the career-stage pricing work?

Most attorney clients pay a flat monthly retainer set by where they are in practice — Associate($500/mo), Senior Associate / Of Counsel($700/mo), and Partner / Corporate Counsel($900/mo), with no one-time fee. Full detail on what’s included at each stage lives on A Lawyer’s Path.

Can I get a one-time plan instead of ongoing service?

Yes. A standalone, one-time financial plan is a negotiated flat fee, generally $5,000–$15,000. It covers a full analysis of where you stand today plus up to three additional scenarios — a partner-track or corporate-counsel move, retiring early, buying a home, funding college. We set the specifics with you individually.

Do you manage investments, or only build the plan?

Both. You pay Firefly to run your financial life — comprehensive planning and investment management built around your age, career stage, risk tolerance, and goals — not just to manage your money.

Do you work with anyone besides attorneys?

No — Firefly Wealth Management serves attorneys, and only attorneys. Every part of the practice, from the planning scenarios to the comp structures we model, is built for the way a legal career and its income actually work.

Who will I actually work with?

You’ll work directly with Joshua F. Levine, CFP®, Firefly’s founder and principal — a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and member of the Financial Planning Association, NAPFA, and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.

Can we meet remotely, and what happens on the first call?

Yes — we meet by phone or video, or in person if you’re in the Cleveland area. The first step is a free consultation: a no-cost conversation about where you are and what you need. No pitch, no obligation.

Still have a question?
